Fragrantica is a popular online encyclopedia of perfumes and a community for fragrance lovers. Despite its widespread use in the online lifestyle/beauty world, Fragrantica’s current visual identity is often described as clunky and outdated. As an avid user of the website myself, I wanted to envision a new Fragrantica UI and identity that reflected the website’s standing as one of the largest perfume communities on the internet. This new identity had to be sleek to balance out the troves of data on every page of the website—too many elements on one page, and the website’s content could easily overwhelm users. Despite its exponential growth over the years, CMA’s visual identity has stayed virtually the same since 2009. &nbsp;When brainstorming the revamp, I wanted to feature the importance of volunteer work in the Aquarium’s day-to-day operations. Because community outreach has been a major component since CMA’s conception, the new visual identity had to appeal to anybody in the community interested in marine life. Also integral was the incorporation of kid-friendly elements for CMA’s K-12 marine science education programs.&nbsp; I also wanted to avoid the conventional deep blues often used in aquarium branding, and instead focus on a vibrant palette that reflected CMA’s equally as vibrant marine life. food, I wanted to bring concept noodle house The Flying Tiger to life as a trendy, delicious haven for Angelenos who are as in love with pho as I am. By mixing modern design elements with traditional imagery, The Flying Tiger showcases a brand identity that is uniquely Vietnamese American. The bright colors and tiger logo design were derived from a historical woodblock painting from the Hang Trong and Hang Non streets of Old Hanoi. (Read more about that painting here!) As of today, more than 1000 units have been sold to customers worldwide. Every step of its visual identity—the 3D sculpts, online store, sales posters, and promotional photos were conceptualized and created by myself. Through close collaboration with my manufacturer, I familiarized myself with Pantone color guides and went through multiple iterations of the final product before giving the OK for mass production. Koneko’s main audience are teenagers and young adults in Asia and the US. Thus, the brand needed an identity that showcased its playful nature, but also felt nostalgic.
